Furore (M5S): ‘Press freedom under threat, follow Assange’s example

Mario Furore commented on the recent testimony given by Julian Assange before the Council of Europe, warning that press freedom is increasingly under threat due to self-censorship, manipulation, and the oligopolistic concentration of media ownership.
“We thank Julian Assange for his courageous intervention… the European Union should take inspiration from his example and recognise the social role of journalists,” said the MEP from the Movimento 5 Stelle, stressing the importance of supporting free and independent journalism.
